“I come from a humble background. Growing up, I was heavily into sports like cricket and tennis and my parents were very supportive, but I knew deep down that the expenses were a lot for them to manage. With sports, you have to keep changing your gear and spend a lot on kits — but there reached a point where I realised that even though I was so passionate about sports, I would have to pick a career option that made me financially independent at the earliest . I went on to do my medical engineering from Mumbai University and have since been working with a wide range of corporate companies over the years. Tennis still is very close to my heart, so naturally the most important tournament that I’ve always wanted to watch is the Wimbledon. Every year Wimbledon gives out tickets in a lottery. I have tried my luck ever since I was old enough to travel alone & never got them. This year, to my delight, I finally got them! The time wasn't the best because I recently got married in a beautiful ceremony, got my home renovated & had my money tied up in a couple of investments. “I’m originally from UP, but moved to Mumbai with my family back in 2001. The biggest reason for us moving was to get better treatment for my sister who’s 8 years younger than me. She was born prematurely at 7 months and has semi cerebral palsy. Being an older sister and seeing her go through numerous surgeries, I’ve always been protective of her. At the same time, she leads a very normal life. Initially, I’d faced some problems while adjusting in Mumbai as a teenager and was always worried that my sister would have to go through the same — but she’s so happy and upbeat. My parents have worked so hard for both of us, my mother used to travel every single day for 7 to 8 years for my sister’s treatment. My parents have never made her feel that she is a bit different than anyone of us. Infact we have always supported her with her decisions. She is an independent girl who will do great in life. She’s currently at a catering college where she’s studying to be a professional chef. Given that ours is such a close knit family, my sister and I have a bond that I cherish the most. I love her the most and I’ve always wanted to do something special for the two of us. Since the last few weeks I’m leaning towards a back packing Euro trip — just the two of us. "I’m 25 and I’ve been married since a year now even though I never thought I'd marry so young — I’m the first of all my friends to be a Mrs! We’ve always lived near by, so we’ve known of each other but not well. When we met properly at a social gathering, I’d just started working and was enjoying my newly found independence. It was an instant connection — we just hit it off so well that right from the word go, we knew it was meant to be . When you know, you just know so why wait to tie the knot, right? But I had so many apprehensions. Questions like, ’Do I want to marry so young with barely any savings?’ , ‘What about the wedding expenses?’ ‘If I use up all my savings now, what about any future needs?’ Most importantly I wondered, if I wanted my parents to pay such a large amount because they were happy to do it, but after a point, it seemed silly to worry about the wedding expenses more than the wedding itself. Getting the loan was easy — It didn't cover all the expenses, but covered enough for me to feel good about myself and the wedding. Exchange of punches magically turns into exchange of gifts today. #HappyRakshabandhan "I'm the younger sibling -- she's six years older than me. Despite the age difference, we fought a lot while growing up. Believe me, enemies were probably kinder to each other than we were. I remember our most brutal fight was when I broke her phone-- It took a while before she forgave me! We're old and mature now...things are peaceful, but we still have our moments! Here's a story of a friend who let us know that where there's a will, there's a way! We wish you a #HappyFriendshipDay. 'I am an introvert. I don’t have too many best friends…I’m the type who doesn’t get close to people very easily. But the one best friend I have — we’re inseparable. We grew up in the same vicinity, went to the same school, our siblings were friends and our parents knew each other...it was that kind of a relationship. Unfortunately for me and fortunately for her, she got permanent residency in Canada and had to move. That's when I first understood what the word 'ambivalence' meant. I was very happy for her but at the same time extremely sad for losing my only best friend. Everything was about to change. No random trips or shopping sprees or sleepovers. Not just cities, but we weren’t even going to be in the same time zone! In order to have some light at the end of the tunnel, we both made a pact, that within a year's time, we'll save up & meet halfway for the best vacation of our lives. Now here's the thing, saving money is tougher than earning it! I was too proud to ask my parents for any monetary help nor did I want to cancel the trip we had planned. This acted as the sole motivation for me to get my first credit card. Almost everything, the flight tickets, accommodation, sight seeing tickets were booked on it. I just returned a month back from Europe and had the trip of a lifetime with my best friend.
